Creating, fostering and utilising hypnotic phenomenon is a very real demonstration of the power to change in hypnosis. In this clip from weekend two of a five weekend Clinical Hypnotherapy training, Nigel demonstrates and utilises various forms of Arm Catalepsy with students.
Lots of language patterns, utilisation and paying attention to what is available.
This November at the Trance Cafe is rapid hypnotic inductions and trance phenomena.
Many hypnotists and therapists are not comfortable with eliciting trance phenomena with their clients in case it doesn’t work. Learning to more carefully calibrate your clients or the people you are hypnotizing will let you know more confidently what kind of trance phenomena you can go for. Trance phenomena like stuck hands, immobile feet, name amnesia or positive and negative hallucinations are all on the cards this month.
Now whether you choose to use these skills for entertainment or for therapy work is up to you. The evening is going to be a fun exploration of rapid hypnosis leading into trance phenomena. With Nigel Hetherington and my colleague John Penman, who is a stage magician and hypnotist.
The evening will consist of lots of rapid induction demonstrations and even more practice for you. Come along and learn how to rapidly induce trance and see how many hypnotic phenomena you can experience in one evening.

This October the Newcastle Hypnotherapy and NLP Study group is presented by Martin D Thornton.
Martin’s web site opens with the very apt “Warning – My Way Of Working Is Not Everyone’s Cup Of Tea” and this is a very apt introduction setting the frame for Martin’s way of working with clients.
Martin says that honesty is the best policy. He also says that laughter is the best medicine. Martin puts both of these together: “I’m a plain-speaking Yorkshireman who believes clients need an outsider’s honest view of what’s going wrong in their lives in order to help them put it right, and who de-clutters their minds via their funny bone to help them do it”. Like Oscar Wilde said, “If you want to tell someone the truth, you had better make them laugh, or they’ll kill you.”
Although still guided by the tenets of NLP Martin doesn’t do typical NLP and his methods are now more CBT (Clowning aBout Therapy). As someone who stands out from the crowd, Martin’s style is unlike most practitioners. Known for being daft and saying silly things, he builds rapport by making (most) people laugh and in doing so creates the trust that’s needed to help people to have a better life than they imagine is possible for them. In fact, his greatest enjoyment is watching a client’s attitude change from ultra serious and worried about their future to realising things aren’t that bad and they can cope with whatever life throws at them.
Martin is blessed with a truly warped mind (his clients say he is crazier than they are) and that is why Martin sees things from a very different perspective, which he then reflect back using humour – sometimes droll and dry and sometimes slapstick (how many therapists do you know behave like a silverback gorilla or sing to their clients?).
Get up close an personal with the creator of SilverBack Coaching ( TM ) [ Martin looks like a Silver Back Gorilla ] and bring your problems and worries along for a full on and experiential adventure of the mind and body that may well lead you to some gut wrenching laughter and a very different view of that old problem.

We certainly do live in interesting times don’t we? Take a look and listen at what is going on in our region, what is going on in the UK and what is going on in and around the World.
Riots, Wars, Unemployment, Shops Closing, Rising Inflation, Petrol & Fuel Increases … and it can all way too easily feel like a very worrying time to be alive.
Have you ever wondered how some people can seemingly be unaffected by a less than positive world and somehow continue to remain upbeat. In other words, how is it they don’t seem to worry or succumb to their own fears and anxieties?
We usually can’t always do a great deal about external events in the world but … We can do a huge amount about how we respond and think in response to the outside world. We can also do a great deal of really simple practices that bring us to Inner Peace and from this place we can be more fully in our world.
How will it be if you can have some really robust tools that are both easy to learn and highly practical to help you gain a better state of mind and rediscover your inner peace.
Well there really are a great deal of ways this kind of state of mind can be achieved. Come along to this Trance Cafe to experience a powerful synthesis of NLP, Hypnotherapy and Eastern meditative practices that you can use in your life and share with your clients. Tuesday 13th September, Newcastle with Nigel Hetherington.

There are not many people who can say they don’t worry. After all, if we think about it, there really is a great deal we could worry about. There really are so many bad things that could happen and could go wrong but the good news is they haven’t happened and they may never happen.
Anxiety or worrying about a negative future that hasn’t happened is literally caused by the way we think and of course what we think about. Very often this kind of thinking is cyclic and includes Bernie’s dreaded ‘what if …’ pattern. There are many techniques and processes that can help to shift thinking patterns. These include threshold interventions, submodality interventions, meditation, humour and irrelevance, percussion, Humour Worx, NLP Eye Integration, compulsion blow-out, hypnosis and behavioural change to name but a few.
Most of these wont actually change the external world too much but they can change our internal world such that the emotional drain can be greatly reduced which then tends to free up more of our energy to act in the world. With more energy we can be acting more positively to move towards the kind of futures we do want.
Don’t worry if you can’t make it this time

When we come direct from heart space we create an energetic connection that surpasses the concept of empathy or our multi-sensory capacity. In doing so we create the neutral void that two souls can share to explore, discover, test, challenge and shift. For us, this is our recipe for lasting and generative change.
So in this café Paula and Nigel will facilitate your unpacking of the deeper and more connecting ways in which yours and our therapeutic alliances work. How they are formed, how they grow and the effect and impact they have on our and the world.
We will open and share our thoughts and processes of how to develop co-created alliances by exploring the concepts of projections and reflections prior to, during and after a dynamic interaction. We will also consider projection and reflection in terms of attracting clients into your life for mutual healing and purposeful learnings.
Every person we meet has something to teach us, and every person has something to say that only they can say. We both believe we attract the clients that will help and be beneficial to our ongoing development. This may also include ‘healing’ your past. viz a vie we meet together to co-create something that is more than mutually beneficial …
From this place we’ll look at working from heart space that dynamically co-creates a change process as being fundamental in effective change and evolution work. We will show you how this offers a place that goes way beyond our understanding of rapport. Indeed it transcends the thoughts that if we shared some common value, belief, outcomes, goals and even purpose we can go anywhere in the relationship.

For many years now there has been great interest in past-life regression within the world of hypnosis. Many of us find fascinating the opportunity to discover a little of what has made us what we are today. Even if the idea of past lives is not what you choose to believe, the power of past lives as a metaphor still gives this experience a unique power that can have positively dramatic effects on even the most sceptic people.
This October’s Trance Cafe offers us a chance to go into and beyond the realms of past lives and to take a sneak peek into what lies in between our lives. Putting it another way, we’ll be looking at what we get up to in the moment between the end of one earthly life and the start of the next.
Why not come to the Trance Cafe and discover just exactly what you get up to:

Emotional Hurt and Addictions have certain things in common. Firstly they both can be particularly tricky stop once they have happened and Secondly withdrawal is categorically similar to emotional loss. A Clean Therapy ™ method can be used to deal with both types of problem.
Addictions may be classed as physical, habitual, chemical or a combination of all three. What these all have in common is there is some payback ( a reward ) from a specific activity which results in neurotransmitters being released or blocked. These chemicals may be externally obtained like drugs and alcohol or supplied endogenously. The important distinction is there is a process which an addict will typically go through, typically:
Stimulus, Desire, Activity, Reward
It is the physical and psychological addiction withdrawal that really is the problem. Once the drug is lost to the system there is often a withdrawal counter effect in the body.
Now consider emotional pain. Specifically forms of loss related emotional pain. Here emotional pain is experienced through loosing something or someone precious, having values transgressed or expectations shattered. In essence something that was once present in life is now gone either permanently or temporarily.
When addictive stop there is often an associated withdrawal stage. This withdrawal is very similar to the experience of loss.
Using my Clean Therapy ™ model, a physicalisation and reintegration process in this case. Therapists can deal effectively with the withdrawal element in many cases. And follow up with Clean Generative Change to future orientate clients.
